SDG 10. Reduced Inequalities
Reduce inequality within and among countries.
Target 10.2: By 2030, empower and promote the social, economic and political inclusion of all, irrespective of age, sex, disability, race, ethnicity, origin, religion or economic or other status.
Relevant mandate:
Public pressure: Parliamentary oversight can mobilize public opinion and create pressure against corruption. As parliamentary debates and inquiries receive media coverage, citizens become aware of corrupt practices and can voice their concerns and demand action.
Example: The Parliament of Madagascar has been active in discussing corruption issues with regards to land and water use. It has promoted the education of the citizenry by sharing key information; it aims towards the protection of the environment by enticing the population to take environmental degradation seriously and to take necessary measures to prevent further wrongdoing. In this regard, the proper use of water resources promotes the economic wellbeing of all, irrespective of social backgrounds.
