SDG 17. Partnerships for the Goals

Strengthen the means of implementation and revitalize the global partnership for sustainable development.

Target 17.1: Strengthen domestic resource mobilization, including through international support to developing countries, to improve domestic capacity for tax and other revenue collection.

Relevant mandate:

Government Access: Parliaments have a unique relationship with the executive branch of government. As a legislative body, parliamentarians have the authority to request information and documentation from the government, including classified or sensitive materials, with the objectives of ensuring proper resource mobilization and preventing the mishandling of international aid and development funds.

Example: The Lebanese Parliament has privileged access to the Ministries of Justice, Finance, respectively, and other critical executive bodies that allows them to gather comprehensive information on various matters, such as policy decisions, national security issues, and government activities. This access is the result of a close collaboration between the Lebanese legislative body and UNDP; this is an effort that has been aligned to the national anti-corruption framework with the UN Convention against Corruption while revitalizing the Lebanese commitment to sustainable development through global partnerships.
