Target 4.a: Build and upgrade education facilities that are child, disability, and gender sensitive and provide safe, non-violent, inclusive, and effective learning environments for all.

Relevant mandate:

National Development Plans: Parliaments participate in the development of national development plans and strategies that align with the SDGs. By contributing to the formulation, review, and adoption of climate change adaptation plans, parliamentarians have incorporated the principles and targets of the SDGs that are relevant to climate change and anti-corruption efforts in the education sector. These measures include budgetary oversight, educational curricula, and infrastructure contractors; Likewise, it is important for parliamentarians to actively engage with relevant stakeholders, including educators, researchers, youth organizations, and climate change experts, to inform their decision-making processes and ensure that education development funds are appropriately directed towards climate change education initiatives.

Example: The Parliament of Tuvalu has an ambitious plan to build resilient infrastructure that withholds against the effects of rising sea levels while ensuring that anti-corruption efforts are also aligned with related issues, such as disbursement of funds and bidding for contracts.
