SDG 5. Gender Equality
Achieve gender equality and empower all women and girls.
Target 5.c: Adopt and strengthen sound policies and enforceable legislation for the promotion of gender equality and the empowerment of all women and girls at all levels.
Relevant mandate:
Legislation and Policy: Several national parliaments have passed laws and regulations aligned with the SDGs. They have enacted legislation on various issues. Parliaments can enact legislation and develop policy frameworks that promote the use of technology for women's empowerment and gender equality. This includes laws that address cybercrime, online harassment, and protection of personal data to ensure a safe and secure digital environment for women.
Example: The People’s Consultative Assembly of the Republic of Indonesia has enacted a low focused on the advancement of women and historically neglected community rights. Furthermore, the Indonesian parliament has established the Joint-Secretariat office, which hand in hand with the Executive branch seeks to develop and implement all the SDG’s in the country, with gender equality efforts being of no less importance than the rest of the SDG’s.
