SDG 8. Decent Work and Economic Growth
Promote sustained, inclusive, and sustainable economic growth, full and productive employment, and decent work for all.
Target 8.3: Promote development-oriented policies that support productive activities, decent job creation, entrepreneurship, creativity and innovation, and encourage the formalization and growth of micro-, small- and medium-sized enterprises, including through access to financial services.
Relevant mandate:
Research and Analysis: Parliamentary research services or congressional staff assist lawmakers by conducting extensive research, policy analysis, and briefings on diverse topics. These services offer parliamentarians reliable and current information, such as academic research, reports, and statistical data, that may not be readily available to the general public. This allows parliamentarians to inform themselves about an array of different topics in order to legislate laws that attract foreign investment, promote economic growth, and that investigate any economic irregularities by others branches and agencies of government.
Example: The National Congress of Brazil has a constitutional mandate under Article 72 to request information from the executive government in order to investigate and analyze any economic irregularities that might be suspected to be illegal. This serves as an instrument to deter corruption efforts by private enterprise or public officials and promote sustainable economic growth while benefitting the citizenry.
