Committee Inquiries and Hearings: Parliamentary committee inquiries and hearings prevent corruption in industry, innovation, and infrastructure policy by promoting transparency and accountability through open discussions and public scrutiny. They investigate and uncover potential corruption risks, identify policy gaps and weaknesses, and make recommendations for reform. By providing ongoing oversight and raising public awareness, these inquiries and commissions deter corrupt practices and ensure the integrity of policies in these sectors.
Inquiries and commissions also help advance development policy in specific areas, ranging from social and environmental issues to infrastructure and sustainability planning. Example: The Assembly of the People’s Representatives of Tunisia through the independent constitutional body on sustainable development. This independent body has a constitutional mandate to be consulted on laws related to economic, social, and environmental issues. Its members are appointed by the lower chamber of the legislative body by highlighting the checks-and-balances spirit of Tunisian governance in the development of industry and infrastructure.
